Our Family Cares

Of all the ministries and good things our church endeavors to do, is there any more on-target than the "Our Family Cares" ministry? I doubt it.

While some of you are already a part of it, others may be hearing about it for the first time so let me give you the gist of it: As many churches do, our church has members who have become shut-ins. Unfortunately for many such folks, to be shut in also means to be shut out. Shut out of community and care because they can no longer go and do and be an active part of friends, family, church.

The fact that they're shut in and shut out means they hold a special place in the heart of Jesus. And because He cares, we must also care. Our Family Cares is a ministry that strives to ensure every one of our shut-ins receives a word of encouragement every week through either a visit, a card, or a phone call.

The feedback we've received since beginning this ministry a few months back has been extraordinarily positive. And the folks serving in this ministry are not only serving shut-ins but our Savior, Himself (Matthew 25).

I would ask you to pray for this ministry. And, if you would be able to serve in it, please reply to this email and let me know. The commitment involves no more than one point of contact per week for typically about 3 weeks out of 4. You can choose any one or combination of: visiting, sending cards, or making phone calls. Even if you choose all three, you'll only be scheduled for one of those tasks each week.

A last word: This ministry doesn't cover every need and I am so thankful to all of you who go above & beyond in showing love and care outside of any organized ministry! Just last night I heard more high praise of what a caring church I have the privilege to serve. Thank you & keep up the great work!!!

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Neil

A Church that Cares

Dear Cypress Street,
Yesterday, as I returned from spending time with Julie's family in Oklahoma, I spoke with a gentleman in our church who has recently gone through much in the way of grief and illness.

As he shared genuine gratitude for the incredible displays of love and care shown by our church, I couldn't help but thank God. What pastor wouldn't love to serve with a church who--while he is away--organizes prayer, meals, and workers to serve those who suddenly need it?!

Thank you to all who prayed. All who cooked. All who helped unload a moving truck. And more. In showing how much you cared, you put the love of Christ on display.

And that's what this whole wide world needs: to experience the love of Christ. I pray they'll ever & increasingly see it in a church that cares.

I'll see many of you tomorrow night @ 6:30 as we begin a fresh look at Prayer. And don't forget we'll kick off a brand new sermon series this Sunday:

Grace & Peace,

Pastor Neil
